너는 내 안에서 그런 계절을 볼 수 있으리라.
노란 잎이, 아니면 아무 잎도, 아니면 겨우 몇 잎만
추위에 떠는 가지에 매달린 때를,
얼마 전까지 고운 새들이 노래하던 헐벗은 폐허의 성가대를.
너는 내 안에서 그런 하루의 황혼을 본다.
해가 진 뒤 서쪽에서 희미해지는 빛,
이윽고 검은 밤이 거두어 가는 빛,
모든 것을 휴식으로 봉하는 죽음의 또 다른 모습.
너는 내 안에서 그런 불씨의 붉음을 본다.
제 젊음의 재 위에 누워,
꺼져야 할 임종의 침상처럼
자신을 길러 준 것으로 스스로를 사르는 불.
너는 이것을 알아본다. 그래서 네 사랑은 더 강해진다.
오래지 않아 떠나보내야 할 것을 더욱 깊이 사랑하게 되므로.

LXXIII.
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see'st the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west;
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death's second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire,
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire,
Consumed with that which it was nourish'd by.
This thou perceivest, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.
